This week's inspiration is Starch Slides, a fantastic shoe line created by Brooklynite Shannon Crowley. Crowley's elegantly simple idea behind the line is using upcycled men's shirts that would otherwise be deadstock. (The vegan “leather” is also made from eco-friendly materials.)
I am always super excited to find companies who are creating sustainable products that look and feel just as luxurious and tempting as conventional fashion—it gives me hope for ethical production permeating other markets. Being wise with our resources shouldn't be a niche interest, and Starch Slides certainly reaches beyond the aesthetic constraints that are currently the norm of conscious fashion.
Here's to more innovators like Starch Slides!
