Striped Flowers

Lately, my posts have been a bit research-heavy.  This week, the weather has finally been beautiful, and I'm feeling like lightening up the blog with a theme on one of my—and the world's—all-time favorite sources of inspiration: flowers!

As you may have noticed from some earlier posts, I look at a lot of botanical illustration, and I've noticed recently that striped flowers in particular have been standing out to me.  Their graphic drama translates so beautifully to line work and brushstrokes when rendered, and I'm itching to paint some.

So, I decided to do a little research on my own for some future painting reference, focusing on Parrot Tulips, "Dinner Plate" Dahlias of various patterns, and Striped Carnations.  Enjoy!
